Synopsis
I love writing that hovers between genres, and leaves readers laughing, crying, or a fun combination of both. Overall, I see writing as an organism that’s messy and always in motion (especially when on the page), and so with my students, I love jumping with them into a text’s trenches and seeing what we find.
Writing Profile
My writing’s curiosities are generational and racial trauma, toxicity in gender dynamics, performance, and mental health. I was a 2019 Lambda Fellow and my work has appeared in Black Warrior Review, DIAGRAM, and TAYO. I have been nominated for a Pushcart Prize, Best of the Net, and was short-listed for the 2020 Tarpaulin Sky Book Award. I have presented my writing and art at University of Wisconsin-Madison, UC Berkeley, National Louis University, The University of Manchester, and elsewhere.
Work with Students
With my students, we build scenes to music, we experiment with new revision techniques, and exhaust our web browsers with research. I encourage my students to use critical analysis, self-reflection, and pattern recognition to become stronger readers and then editors of their wiring.
